Terms of Service

1. The service

KodaLang is an AI-powered English tutor built for French speakers. It offers AI conversation practice, pronunciation analysis, adaptive reading, listening and writing exercises, and optional sessions with human tutors. In line with the EU AI Act, we remind you: you are interacting with an AI system, not a certified teacher. AI feedback can contain mistakes — it is a training aid, not exam certification.

2. Accounts and eligibility

• You must provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date.
• In France you may register on your own from age 16. Under 16s need a parent or legal guardian to register and consent — see our Privacy Policy.
• One account per person. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential.

3. Plans, pricing and the Soft Cap

• Free: a limited daily experience, free forever, no card required.
• Starter ($9.99/month): 60 minutes of AI conversation per month plus unlimited adaptive content.
• Premium ($19.99/month or $149.99/year): near-unlimited AI conversation with a Soft Cap of 300 minutes per month (≈10 minutes/day). Beyond the cap, requests are routed to a lighter, cheaper AI tier rather than cut off — fewer than 1 in 12 Premium users ever reach it.
• Premium+Coach ($34.99/month): everything in Premium, plus proactive AI coaching and human tutor credits as described at checkout.
• Prices are shown in USD at checkout and may change for new subscribers with 30 days' notice.

4. Billing

• Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We never store your card number.
• Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period. Cancel anytime in Settings → Billing — you keep access until the end of the paid period.
• Where offered, a 7-day free trial converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends. You will not be charged during the trial.
• Refunds are handled under our Refund Policy.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• abuse, harass, or attempt to extract personal data through the service;
• scrape, copy, or resell the service or its AI-generated content at scale;
• circumvent usage limits, or use the service to break the law.

We may suspend accounts that breach these rules, after warning where reasonable.

6. Your content and ours

Practice content generated for you (your texts, your corrected sentences, your progress cards) is yours to use for learning. The KodaLang platform, brand, and underlying models remain our intellectual property.

7. Termination

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account — your learning data, voice recordings and phonetic profile are permanently removed. If you do, paid time already started is governed by the Refund Policy.

8. Liability

The service is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as an EU consumer, which always apply.

9. Disputes

Contact us first — most issues are solved by email within days. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, EU consumer law applies, including the courts of your place of residence.

10. Changes

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect; continuing to use KodaLang afterwards means you accept them.
